Christmas Light Installation in Old University & College Hill
Holiday lighting through Old University, College Hill and the Brooklyn streets along Gordon down toward Royal City Park.
This is where Guelph's heritage rules apply most directly. The Brooklyn and College Hill Heritage Conservation District covers 160 properties from roughly College Avenue down Gordon Street to the north edge of Royal City Park, with some streets west of Gordon between Mary Street and Forbes Avenue, and owners need a heritage permit for anything beyond minor changes. Seasonal lights are the natural fit: clipped to wood trim, eavestroughs and porch railings, nothing fixed to stone or brick, and off the house in January. For anyone who wants permanent lighting here, the install is planned into wood soffit only and cleared with the City's heritage staff first. The houses mix stone, brick and frame, with deep porches and gables that are lovely lit and awkward to reach. Mature trees and street trees on the boulevard are common, so lighting stays in your own yard unless the City has said yes. Many streets near the university are rentals, and owners who live away can have the display installed, timed and taken down without being there.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Rockwood, Fergus and Elora?
Yes. Rockwood, Fergus, Elora and the countryside between them are quoted on the same terms as the city. Longer drives are planned into route days so rural installs are not squeezed in at dusk.
Are the electricity prices the same outside the city?
The OEB's regulated prices are the same across Ontario. Guelph and Rockwood are served by Alectra; other townships may have a different distributor with different delivery charges, which are on your own bill.
Do heritage rules apply in Fergus and Elora?
Centre Wellington has its own heritage register and designations, separate from Guelph's. Seasonal clip-on lights do not alter a building; for permanent lighting on a stone downtown building or a designated house, check with the Township first.
