Fergus and Elora sit a short drive north of Guelph in Centre Wellington, and their December is a little harder. Environment Canada's normals for the Fergus Shand Dam station give an average December high of -0.7 °C, about 17 December days that never get above freezing, and snow on the ground for most of the month, so installs here are ideally finished in early to mid November. Both villages have stone downtowns and older stone and brick houses, which are lit on clips and trim with nothing fixed to the stone, and newer subdivisions on the edges where permanent lighting fits well. Elora's streets near the Gorge and Fergus's along the Grand draw visitors through the season, and lit storefronts are part of that. Heritage designations here are Centre Wellington's, not Guelph's, so permanent installs on designated buildings are checked with the Township.
